Cherry enlists as a medic in the army to escape heartbreak after his girlfriend Emily leaves to study in Montreal. Emily and Cherry marry just before his deployment after Emily realizes that she loves Cherry. After Cherry returns from the war, he suffers from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). He starts the abuse of prescription medicines which leads him to a life of drugs. Emily too starts using drugs, leading them both to a life of crime to support their drug addiction.
